Activities

It is well known that social activity is an essential element of continued well-being, so at Iden Manor we take fun, stimulation and involvement pretty seriously – but with a big smile on our faces.

Residents have access to a small library and anyone can have a regular newspaper delivery and/or a television in their room (in addition to the big screen in the lounge), but we believe in encouraging interaction and involvement.  To help this happen, we have a wonderful team of people dedicated to designing and delivering a programme of activities that meets the differing needs of our residents.

The Activities Programme includes therapeutic activities such as musical exercise and fitness, as well as familiar quizzes, musical entertainment, visiting performers and games – all provided at no additional charge.

Creating a ‘life history’ book is immensely popular with residents and their families. One of our Activities Team will work closely with a resident encouraging them to recall and record significant life events and memories… elderly people are very reliant on their memories and they love to talk about them so to be able to create a record is very special – for their families too.

Residents also enjoy planned theme days every month where we all celebrate significant calendar and seasonal events. These are immensely popular and are often linked to craft activities, making things for those events.

There are also numerous outings planned throughout the year; a visit to the seaside down at Hastings is always well-subscribed and our wheelchair-accessible minibus is an essential facility. We also involve the wider community in arranging appropriate and meaningful events, so there is plenty to do.

Participation in activities is recorded in the individual care records – a thoughtful feature for families because when they come to visit, they can easily find out what their mum or dad, husband or wife has been involved in and it provides an additional talking point.

When I arrive to visit my wife, she is often sitting with other people, actively involved in something
